Yellow Cluster - Class 5

We are full of enthusiasm and have a thirst for learning in Yellow Cluster. We range in ages from Year 2 to Year 6 and we are a little more grown up than our friends in Green Cluster. Our pupils are set according to their individual needs into either a Structured class (class 6), a Focused class (class 5) and a Sensory class (class 4).

In Yellow Cluster we pride ourselves as working together as a team, so as to ensure that our pupils reach their maximum potential. We do this through planning the curriculum to meet the individual needs of our pupils, arranging “play and stay” sessions for our parents, which allow staff to enjoy good relationships with parents and for parents to be involved in their child’s learning. The Yellow Cluster team works hard to develop the image of the cluster area and its identity. Dedicated staff support each other to make their classrooms into fun and wonderful learning environments which are used to inspire pupils.

Our Cluster aims to develop our pupil’s independence and self- help skills, this is evident as some of our pupils are able to do jobs, such as taking the dinner list to the office, giving out equipment in class, look after their own possessions, such as their coat and bag and help tidy away and clean up after themselves. They are encouraged, through play and good practice to help each other and be friendly and caring to others in our cluster.

To enhance and support the curriculum, pupils in Yellow Cluster benefit from a wide variety of interventions including speech and language therapy, forest schools, rebound therapy, massage therapy, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and educational visits such as Crash, Bang, Wallop and Dudley Zoo. Our pupils have regular visits from Rupert, a horse that can understand Makaton signing and play ball with our pupils. Some of our pupils also benefit from going horse riding. Our Gifted and Talented pupils attend Primary Read, Write Inc, to enhance their literacy skills and Primary Numicon to further their numeracy skills.

Yellow Cluster is quite a noisy, but a fun and caring place to be! As we know how important it is to be able to communicate to each other and to let people know what we want, so we are learning how to use different ways of communicating that suits us best – we talk, we do Intensive Interaction, we use PECS, we use Makaton signs, we receive and respond to On Body Signs and use switches when we work and when we play. Talking of play that is something we do best, the messier the better according to our staff, but that’s ok because we are learning through play and we also learn to clean up too!
