Specialist nursing support is provided to support children and families with long term conditions and disabilities. Our children are supported in school by the CCNS 5 days a week during school hours. Support given could include epilepsy support, incontinence advice and pad assessments, enteral feeding equipment and training.

The nursing team at Green Park work closely alongside the team at the Gem Centre and with consultants.

Physiotherapy can help children and young people to move better, so they can be more independent and have a better quality of life. We want to improve opportunities for children to develop and thrive such as playing with friends, accessing sports or enjoying hobbies.

After an assessment, a Physiotherapist will work with the children, young people families and those who support them to set goals and develop an individual management plan.

To get the best results, physiotherapy needs to be part of every day life. It’s what happens all day, every day that really counts!

Wolverhampton Wheelchair Service provides a wide range of wheelchairs and associated equipment, a detailed assessment of your child's needs, modifications to ensure that your wheelchair meets their needs, regular safety checks and a comprehensive repair, delivery and collection service.

Parents are required to communicate direct with wheelchair services as professionals are no longer permitted to pass on messages.

Occupational therapy is used to help pupils gain the ability to perform everyday activities on their own. Occupational therapists also assist pupils who have cognitive or developmental disabilities that affect their motor skills, behavior or emotions. For example, if pupils need help getting dressed or taking a shower, they may benefit from occupational therapy.

Occupational Therapists also assess pupils for specialist seating. For pupils at Green Park, this assessment is completed at school.

Both Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy assessments are conducted mainly at school in our therapy room.

Orthotics provide devices and support to prevent or correct deformity and/or improve function. A range of different supports can be offered to our pupils including: specialist footwear and insoles, spinal braces, wrist braces and hip supports.

Parents are required to contact orthotics if the device/support is causing pain, not fitting properly, worn out or if you require a further assessment. Contact details are:

Speech and Language Therapists work with children and young people who are experiencing speech, language and communication difficulties. They also work with children with eating and drinking difficulties.

Speech and language therapists may assess your child in school, at home or at the GEM centre.

The therapists may use picture assessments or toys to find out about your child’s speech and language developments. Once an assessment has taken place, a Speech and Language Plan will be shared with families at school to work together on. Regular reviews will be in place and a Speech and Language Therapist may work with your child for a block of treatment if needed.

For children with risk of aspiration when feeding, Speech and Language therapists will provide the school and family with an Eating and Drinking plan.

Most consultants appointments with Consultants based at New Cross Hospital take place in school hours and at school. This is to reduce disruption to your child's school day and so that a member of the nursing team can also support you and your family.

Some appointments cannot happen at school and you will need to collect your child to attend the appointment. As per our Attendance Policy, we ask to see copies of any appointment letters.

During the year, the audiology team from New Cross Hospital will hold a clinic here at Green Park. This means that your child does not miss out on time away from school to attend the appointment.

The Dietician based at New Cross Hospital visits our school and holds regular clinics in school. Your child will meet you in the consulting room for the appointment and then return to class after.

Wolverhampton Sensory Inclusion are a team of Qualified Specialist Teachers of the deaf, and Qualified Specialist Teachers of the visually impaired. If assessed by the team, your pupil may have weekly, half termly, termly visits or annual visits from the Sensory Inclusion Service. Regular reports are shared with families and visits may occur at school and at home.
