Physical, Sensory and Medical Needs
Teaching Methods
Our Knowledge rich curriculum has been developed to ensure pupils make progress throughout their Green Park journey. Every pupil is unique for us and staff pride themselves in ensuring they make progress as the PSM curriculum can be tailored to their individual needs employing a challenging yet sensitive approach.
Design and Technology (DT)
Skills are developed throughout the Green Park Journey in Food Technology, Design, and Project making using different materials. Pupils use different areas within school to enhance their learning.
Physical Education (PE)
We pride ourselves on being an active school and have recently been awarded Silver School Games Mark for our pledge to prioritise the delivery of 60 active minutes for every child to support improvements in their physical literacy, social, emotional and physical wellbeing. This has been attained by pupils taking part in Swimming, PE sessions, Motor Programme, MATP, Rebound, Cool Kids. We make good use of our fabulous outdoor Forest Schools Walkway and large green space. Functional students travel off site to use facilities at local gyms and be physical within the community.
Music
Music is integral to all we do within the curriculum. Skills in the seven key elements of music are taught progressively. Pupils have opportunities to listen to World music, Music from a variety of genres. Pupils are encouraged to compose their own pieces of music, perform music and to develop skills to actively listen and show preferences. We work closely with Wolverhampton Music School and welcome visiting Musicians from the City and beyond. Pupils have really enjoyed yearly visits from Welsh Opera in recent years. Music is used to aid communication, cues, numeracy and reflection.
Art
We emphasise that Art is not only an important subject to hone transferable skills in mark making, thinking skills and communication skills but also a very important skill for wellbeing and positive mental health and resilience. We encourage pupils to try new media, research Art from many genres, World Art, Ancient and Modern Art. We have welcomed Artist in Residencies in the past to which pupils, staff and parents can enjoy works displayed around the learning environment.
Assessment
Assessment is important for PSM as it is used to celebrate the steps of learning pupils have undertaken. Pupils will follow their set pathways (EYFS, Pre-formal, SemiFormal, Formal or Functional) and their EHCP targets and Learning Passports will continue to be monitored through the EFL app. Pupils following the Semi formal and Formal pathways will also sit (Diagnostic/ Summative assessment to benchmark/ check understanding). Students in post 16 education will continue to work through (Accredited courses). Working with Parents and Training. CPD is very important to the staff at Green Park School. We are lucky to have many trained staff in a variety of interventions pertinent to PSM- Swimming staff, Rebound Trainers, Massage Staff, Musicians and Physical Education Leaders. We also embrace our relationship with Wolverhampton Music Service and other visiting professionals within The Arts. We share a passion to nurture and support progression of our pupils through working relationships with The Multi Discipline Teams of Medically trained professionals.
Parents are integral to all we strive to achieve, we welcome parents into our classes to celebrate success’, we seek parent voice during Annual Reviews and bi-annual parents’ evenings.
